1st Millennium BC, ex. Arthur M. Sackler Collection
A salmon-tan coloured pottery mug from ancient Persia, dating to the 1st millennium BC. The vessel features a single loop handle and a flared rim, with several areas of mineral deposits and light encrustation attesting to its considerable age. A small v-shaped piece has been reattached in the lip, with a minor lip chip and a restored lip flake; otherwise the piece is intact. This mug comes from the distinguished collection of Arthur M. Sackler (1913–1987), the American physician, philanthropist and art collector whose vast holdings of Asian and Near Eastern antiquities formed the basis of the Sackler galleries at the Smithsonian Institution and other major museums.
