Vietnamese Blue & White Ceramic, 15th Century
A blue-and-white ceramic box with lid, decorated with delicate floral motifs, recovered from the Hoi An Shipwreck. The box features a chrysanthemum design on the lid and scrolling foliage on the body, characteristic of 15th-century Vietnamese ceramics from the Chu Dau kilns. Such covered boxes were used for storing cosmetics, incense or precious materials and were highly prized trade goods throughout Southeast Asia and beyond.
