b. 1980, Hong Kong — based in Tokyo

Biography

mr clement (b. 1980) is a sculptor and painter whose practice draws inspiration from comics, popular culture, and the Old Masters. Born in Hong Kong, he moved to London in 2004 and is currently based in Tokyo. His main character LAPIN — a melancholic seeker in the form of a rabbit — has become one of the most recognisable figures in contemporary art-toy culture.

His sculptures and paintings explore themes of solitude, longing and quiet resilience. The minimalist aesthetic, enriched by deep study of classical art, gives his work a gravitas that belies its playful surface. As the artist states: "I want my sculptures to communicate complex emotions purely based on their form, without dependence on captions or titles."

Exhibitions include shows in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, and Singapore. His works are held in private collections worldwide. HUBER FINE ART presents mr clement exclusively for Switzerland.
